Les bâtiments conventuels, qui accompagnaient l'ancienne église des Carmes Déchaussés, furent transformés pour y installer le Museum d'histoire naturelle en 1861. Ils reçurent une façade monumentale à portique tétrastyle d'ordre dorique, due à l'architecte Urbain Vitry, pour servir d'entrée à l'école de médecine qui occupa les lieux après 1820. L'architecte prolongea la façade nord. Quatre colonnes doriques supportent un fronton triangulaire à l'intérieur duquel peut se lire le mot "Museum".

History
The convent buildings, which accompanied the former church of the Barefoot Carmelites, were transformed to house the Museum of Natural History in 1861. They received a monumental façade with tetrastyle Doric portico, due to architect Urbain Vitry, to serve as entrance to the school of medicine which occupied the premises after 1820. The architect extended the north façade. Four Doric columns support a triangular pediment inside which can be read the word "Museum".
