De tradition médiévale, le marché couvert présente l'exemple accompli des halles sur poteaux de bois possédant, en leur centre, un bâtiment accueillant les activités communales. Sa construction se tient vers 1342, dès la fondation de la bastide. L'édifice connut plusieurs campagnes de restauration. En 1825, un projet de reconstruction de la partie centrale fut confié à l'architecte Urbain Vitry. La vieille structure en pans de bois et torchis était remplacée par un ouvrage néoclassique en maçonnerie.

History
Of medieval tradition, the covered market presents the accomplished example of halls on wooden posts possessing, at their centre, a building housing communal activities. Its construction dates to around 1342, from the foundation of the bastide. The building underwent several restoration campaigns. In 1825, a project for reconstruction of the central part was entrusted to the architect Urbain Vitry. The old timber-framing and wattle structure was replaced by a neoclassical masonry work.
