The barony of Launac was founded in the 12th century by Jourdain III de l'Isle, who probably had the primitive castle built in the first half of the 13th century. In 1229, the castle was dismantled after the Treaty of Paris which ended the Albigensian Crusade. Its restoration was undertaken after 1243. Initially rectangular, the castle retained only its north and west wings, traces of fractures on which bear witness to the lost parts. These mutilations probably date from the Revolution. The oldest part, the north-east tower, dates from the 13th century and presents internally a multipartite vault. The north and west façades testify to an evolution of their defensive arrangements from the 13th to the 16th century. The square tower to the west revealed geometric painted decoration dating from the 15th century.
