The church was formerly that of an important abbey, whose chapter house still exists. The building belongs to two distinct periods. The more recent, late 14th century, constitutes the church proper. This nave was added to the Romanesque part, either following the ruin of its choir, or because the primitive church had become inadequate. The four pillars supporting the bell tower form the centre, this space being covered by a barrel vault in cloister arch reinforced by four ribs leading to a central lunette. These three parts of the plan are connected to each other by a kind of circular aisle, each segment of which is covered by an annular barrel vault in triangle form. A semi-circular apse terminates each arm of the transept. The choir offered the same arrangement with, on the eastern face of the two pillars, the engaged column which supported the archivolt, and at the summit of the re-entrant angles of these pillars, the rounded stonework which serves as the start of the annular vault. This part of the monument may date back to the late 11th century. The barrel vault of the north transept is decorated with a fresco representing Christ seated and blessing, standing out against a blue background. Four lobes each comprise a representation of an evangelist. To the north, the portal is defended by machicolations.
