Historique

History
The military function of Najac was known in the Middle Ages. Before the creation of Villefranche by Alphonse of Poitiers (beginning of 13th century), Najac was the seat of the senechaussée. This house must have been the one where the seneschal stayed when he was passing through Najac. The house is organised in a U-shape, around an interior courtyard, and flanked by an imposing tower containing the spiral staircase, in the south-east corner of the courtyard. This tower is the oldest part of the house (14th century). Traces of removal show that it once extended to building ranges now destroyed. This tower gives access in the south wing to three superimposed rooms, plus cellar and attic. This building range is contemporary with the tower. The east and north wings, much more recent, feature a storey of wooden galleries covered with lauze.
