Historique

History
Building leaning against the west side of the former cathedral (erected from 1343 to 1865). The bishop's palace is a two-storey building, in ashlar stone, built in the early 16th century by bishop Philippe de Lévis on medieval constructions. The prelate's apartment has direct access to the oratory housed above the cathedral portal. Inside the palace is found a chapel, raised over two levels, vaulted with ribs of the same type as the private palatine chapels of the 14th and 15th centuries. An interior staircase features decoration inspired by 15th-century Italian decorative schemes; it is adorned with a multitude of corbel decoration. The palace underwent some unfortunate restorations in the 19th century, in particular the removal of fireplaces. Currently there exists a project to install a museum of sacred art.
