History

The castle is composed of several elements from different periods. The donjon dating from the 13th and 14th centuries up to the level of the parapet walk modified in the 15th century, at which time the four corner turrets, hourdis and roof covering were put in place. A corridor with staircase cage, applied to the East face of the donjon and of the same length, dating from the end of the 14th - beginning of the 15th century. A main dwelling flanked by two round corner towers to the north-east and south-east, perhaps reusing some elements of an earlier construction but essentially later than 1587. A main dwelling applied in the 17th century to the south face of the previous one. A raised scullery, placed at the angle of the north-east tower and the eastern façade in the 19th century. An element forming a quarter circle, placed in the angle of the south-east tower and the East face of the 17th-century building, put in place at the beginning of the 20th century. In 1730, the donjon was made more habitable, with modification of the openings and creation, on the first floor, of two large rooms, one of which presents a ceiling with 32 caissons painted in monochrome. The whole is an excellent example of 18th-century decoration of which there remain, in Haute-Auvergne, few testimonies.
