Jusqu'en 1541, la justice à Murat fut celle du vicomté. A cette date, celle du roi s'implanta par ordonnance fixant en ce lieu la résidence du lieutenant du bailli des "montagnes d'Auvergne". Cette maison devait servir de logement à un chanoine de la collégiale. Le décor sculpté au plafond du premier étage (16e siècle) semble indiquer que c'était là le lieu de réunion du Tiers-Ordre franciscain. A la Révolution, la maison est vendue comme bien national. L'édifice présente quatre étages sur un niveau de caves.

History
Until 1541, justice in Murat was that of the viscounty. At that date, that of the king was established by ordinance fixing at this place the residence of the lieutenant of the bailiff of the "mountains of Auvergne". This house was to serve as lodging for a canon of the collegiate church. The sculpted decoration on the ceiling of the first floor (16th century) seems to indicate that this was the meeting place of the Franciscan Third Order. At the Revolution, the house is sold as national property. The edifice presents four storeys above a basement level.
