At the end of the 12th century, Antignac is a priory dependent on la Chaise-Dieu. The troubadour Raoul Passerous bequeaths his goods in favour of the churches and seigneuries of Antignac. The choir with its capitals dates from this period. A bell tower-wall should have existed, replaced in 1789 by the present bell tower. Lateral chapels are added in the 15th or 16th century. In the 18th century, the nave is remodelled, chapels are created. A new bell tower is erected in 1789. At the beginning of the 19th century, a painted wainscoting covers the nave. The interior is redecorated between 1870 and 1880, with creation of stained glass by Chamrobert, master glazier of Clermont.

The Romanesque choir has a semi-circular chevet; the apse is vaulted with a cul-de-four, with arcading on columns and capitals. The lateral chapels of the 15th century are vaulted in barrel vault. A double arch carries the bell tower-wall. The chapels of the 18th century are vaulted with groins. The wainscoted roof structure of the nave forms a false barrel vault. It is made up of rustic planks nailed and painted on a blue background. At the centre is an eye within a triangle in the middle of rays darting from the sun, with a peripheral crown of clouds where little angels float; this eye symbolizes that of the omniscient God. In each corner, representation of the evangelists: Saint-Jean and the eagle, Saint-Matthieu and the angel, Saint-Marc and the lion and Saint-Luc and the ox. These paintings are treated according to the neo-classical manner characteristic of the period 1820-1830. The partial protection of this building does not take into account the nave and its painted vault, which constitutes a very interesting testimony to a period little represented in the Cantal. All of the stained glass from the decade 1870-1880 are equally worthy of interest.
