History
This is one of the oldest castellanies of the Bourbonnais whose origins go back at least to the 11th century (presumably erected on the site of a fortified post of Roman defence). The castle is built on a steep promontory, with defences of seven towers, six of which are round. The entrance was to be found to the east, with access by drawbridge. Following this was a fortified gate with vaulted passage. Two inner courtyards: the outer bailey and that of the keep. This castle must have been dismantled following the defection of the Constable.
