Historique
Porte dont la toiture en tuiles domine deux grosses tours découronnées, élevée après 1497 par Pierre de la Fin, vingtième abbé de l'abbaye de Bénisson-Dieu, qui avait obtenu le droit de clore le bourg. La façade est ornée d'une niche avec, en-dessous, les armoiries de l'abbé dans un cartouche. Deux autres écus se présentent de chaque côté de la niche. La porte était surmontée d'une chambre, aujourd'hui à usage de mairie, autrefois utilisée pour la manoeuvre d'une herse et d'un pont-levis dont les emplacements sont demeurés visibles. L'une des tours contient l'escalier de pierre en spirale conduisant à cette chambre haute. La porterie a conservé sa toiture primitive couverte de tuiles vernissées polychromes.

History
Gateway whose tile roof dominates two large crenellated towers, built after 1497 by Pierre de la Fin, twentieth abbot of the abbey of Bénisson-Dieu, who had obtained the right to enclose the town. The façade is ornamented with a niche with, below, the arms of the abbot in a cartouche. Two other shields present themselves on each side of the niche. The gateway was surmounted by a chamber, now used as a town hall, formerly used for the operation of a portcullis and drawbridge, the positions of which remain visible. One of the towers contains the spiral stone staircase leading to this upper chamber. The gatehouse has retained its primitive roof covered with polychrome glazed tiles.
