Seigneurie connue dès le 13e siècle, détenue à l'époque par Alphonse de Poitiers, frère de Saint-Louis. Le quadrilatère du château était protégé par une enceinte externe dont ne subsistent que les terrasses et les deux tours encadrant la porte d'entrée. Du château lui-même subsistent le donjon, une tour et une partie de la tourelle d'escalier desservant le logis lié au donjon. Le donjon s'ouvre en quatre niveaux vers le corps de logis intérieur. Des vestiges de peintures murales apparaissent au deuxième étage du donjon. Cette forteresse, en majorité du 14e siècle, est intéressante par son architecture très caractéristique de l'Auvergne et du Velay, aussi bien par le plan que par les détails.

History
A lordship known from the 13th century, held at the time by Alphonse of Poitiers, brother of Saint-Louis. The quadrilateral of the castle was protected by an external fortification of which only the terraces and the two towers framing the entrance door remain. Of the castle itself remain the keep, a tower and part of the staircase turret serving the main dwelling linked to the keep. The keep opens in four levels towards the interior main building. Traces of wall paintings appear on the second storey of the keep. This fortress, for the most part of the 14th century, is interesting for its architecture very characteristic of Auvergne and Velay, both in plan and in details.
