Historique
Ce bâtiment, dénommé "Préfecture", était lié au château de Chalençon et aurait abrité les salles de justice du mandement. L'édifice paraît dater des 13e - 14e siècles. Un premier bâtiment conserve une cheminée romane, avec corbeaux de soutien, linteau incurvé, haute souche et mitre. Les parties hautes de ce bâtiment n'existent plus. Accolé à ce bâtiment, une autre aile plus importante a été construite postérieurement (14e - 15e siècle). Son rez-de-chaussée est marqué, au sud, par une entrée cochère en tiers point, sans doute des écuries. Au-dessus de petites fenêtres du 17e, et plus haut à gauche, une porte ouvrant aujourd'hui sur le vide dénote, avec les attachements du mur Est, une autre construction disparue.

History
This building, called the "Prefecture", was linked to the castle of Chalençon and is said to have housed the halls of justice of the manorial jurisdiction. The building appears to date from the 13th-14th centuries. A first building retains a Romanesque fireplace, with supporting corbels, curved lintel, tall chimney breast and mitre. The upper parts of this building no longer exist. Adjoining this building, another, larger wing was built later (14th-15th century). Its ground floor is marked, to the south, by a pointed-arch coach entry, no doubt for stables. Above small windows of the 17th century, and higher to the left, a door opening today onto the void indicates, with the attachments to the east wall, another disappeared building.
