Les rois de France obtinrent des marchés hebdomadaires près de l'église Saint-Jean, entraînant l'allongement de la ville vers le sud. Les routes de Montpezat prennent alors le nom de "rue Saint-Pierre", vocable de la première chapelle abbatiale au 9e siècle, et les maisons de notables s'y succédèrent, dont les maisons Grangette et de la Chirouze comptent parmi les principales. L'élément essentiel de la maison Grangette est sa porte monumentale sur rue. History
The kings of France obtained weekly markets near the church of Saint-Jean, causing the town to extend towards the south. The roads of Montpezat then took the name of "rue Saint-Pierre", the name of the first abbatial chapel in the 9th century, and the houses of notable inhabitants followed one another, of which the houses Grangette and de la Chirouze count among the main ones. The essential element of the Grangette house is its monumental door on the street. An order of fluted Doric pilasters supports the entablature and the pediment whose tympanum is decorated with a diamond point and a sculpture of fruits. A basket-handle arch marks the entrance. The exterior door on the street opens onto a vaulted vestibule leading by a door with bosses and diamond point onto the square tower of the spiral staircase. The interior has preserved nothing of its old layouts and ornamentations. Only a fireplace has retained a pier with a sculpted capital.
