History
The ruins are limited to the two tower-shaped angles of the old keep between which the machicolations of the wall-walk subsist, and the base of a corner tower of the enceinte. Seat of the second barony of Auvergne, the castle was built towards the end of the 14th century on a plan comprising three fortified enceintes. The building sustained several sieges during the Hundred Years War and against the League in 1593. It was burned on 15 November 1698. Communal property after the Revolution, it served as a quarry for building materials.
