History

This Renaissance castle, reworked in the following centuries, presents simple but well-proportioned exterior arrangements. It preserves the essential of its structures and contains original interior elements. The centred plan, with small interior courtyard for circulation and four corner towers, could be derived from Renaissance classical architecture. The most important alterations took place in the 17th century (rib vaults of the lower halls, arcades of the stairwell, decoration of the tower, oratory). The outbuildings preserve, in the great lower hall, over a barrel vault, a decoration of false rib vault ribs possibly dating to the end of the 16th century or the beginning of the 17th century. The interior presents four interesting rooms. On the ground floor, the triple-flight staircase has decoration painted in stencil. On the first floor, a small oratory set in the wall of the north-west tower, presents a decoration of stucco pasticheing Renaissance scalloped borders, cloudy sky with dove, from the end of the 18th or the beginning of the 19th century. The ceiling of the adjoining room has coffered panels. Another room is decorated with coffered panels with large flowers in stucco. On the second floor, Louis XV decoration with traces of alterations dating to the 1830s.
