Il y a eut à Vergheas, jusqu'à la Révolution, un prieuré fondé par les Bénédictins de l'abbaye d'Ebreuil. L'église, édifice en grande partie romane avec quelques adjonctions modernes (parties du transept, clocher) , fut comprise dans les dépendances de l'abbaye d'Ebreuil en 1188. Cette église possède une nef, un transept à bras saillants et un choeur à abside semi-circulaire. Le transept a son carré couvert d'une coupole sur trompes portées par quatre arcs brisés reçus sur colonnes engagées. Sur le massif carré du clocher a été montée à l'époque moderne une tour octogonale surmontée d'une flèche.

History
There was at Vergheas, until the Revolution, a priory founded by the Benedictines of Ebreuil Abbey. The church, a building largely Romanesque with some modern additions (parts of the transept, bell tower), was included in the dependencies of Ebreuil Abbey in 1188. This church possesses a nave, a transept with projecting arms and a choir with a semi-circular apse. The transept has its bay covered with a dome on squinches borne by four pointed arches resting on engaged columns. On the square mass of the bell tower was mounted in the modern period an octagonal tower topped with a spire.
