History
The castle of Aulteribe is a vast building of the 15th century, of trapezoidal plan with corner bastions. It was remodelled in the 17th century (opening of numerous openings) and in the 19th century (monumental staircase, addition of machicolations and echauguettes). The whole was bequeathed to the Caisse nationale des monuments historiques (which became the centre of national monuments) in 1954.
