Le château actuel occupe l'emplacement d'un édifice plus ancien appartenant à l'origine à la maison d'Apchon, puis en 1220 aux dauphins d'Auvergne. A la Révolution, le château fut vendu comme bien national et devint le centre administratif de la commune, avec une partie de logements. L'édifice comprend un corps de logis principal rectangulaire dont les extrémités sont marquées par deux pavillons comportant un étage supplémentaire. La façade nord donne sur une cour fermée à l'ouest par les anciens communs. La façade sud ouvre sur le jardin, amputé d'une partie de sa superficie depuis la Révolution. Le château semble ne rien avoir conservé de l'édifice antérieur, et avoir été entièrement construit par les Capony après leur installation en 1764. L'intérieur, fortement remanié au 19e siècle, est traité dans un style où dominent les ouvrages de gypserie. Le décor intérieur comprend également des éléments de ferronnerie (balcons, rampe de l'escalier d'honneur) , boiseries moulurées, stucs, parquet Versailles... Ce château est représentatif des demeures artistocratiques auvergnates du 18e siècle.

History
The present château occupies the site of an older edifice originally belonging to the house of Apchon, then in 1220 to the Dauphins of Auvergne. At the Revolution, the château was sold as national property and became the administrative centre of the commune, with a part of dwellings. The edifice comprises a main rectangular dwelling body whose ends are marked by two pavilions with an additional storey. The north façade overlooks a courtyard closed to the west by the former outbuildings. The south façade opens onto the garden, reduced in part of its area since the Revolution. The château seems to have retained nothing from the earlier edifice, and to have been entirely built by the Capony after their establishment in 1764. The interior, heavily altered in the 19th century, is treated in a style in which works of plasterwork dominate. The interior decoration also comprises elements of ironwork (balconies, main staircase railing), moulded woodwork, stuccos, Versailles parquet... This château is representative of the aristocratic dwellings of Auvergne of the 18th century.
