Historique
La porte du beffroi est la seule qui subsiste des trois portes qui donnaient accès à la ville. Cette porte est bâtie sur plan carré et se compose, au rez-de-chaussée, de deux arcades parallèles avec rainures ayant logé une herse, et reliées latéralement par des murs pleins, d'équerre sur les deux façades. Les corbeaux des mâchicoulis sont à leur place, mais les parapets du chemin de ronde qui l'entouraient ont été, sur trois faces, reculés. Au sud, ce parapet est demeuré à son aplomb primitif. Au 16e siècle, le dispositif a été partiellement modifié. L'escalier qui monte dans l'épaisseur de la muraille de cette façade sud, a conservé ses fenêtres et sa porte d'entrée primitives. A la partie haute de la courtine est visible le passage qui donnait, de l'intérieur de la porte, sur le chemin de ronde. £A la fin du 16e siècle, la porte a été surélevée par une tourelle à huit pans surmontée d'un campanile. La barbacane, percée de quatre embrasures pour bouches à feu, semble dater de la même époque.

History
The door of the belfry is the only one that remains of the three doors which gave access to the town. This door is built on a square plan and consists, at ground level, of two parallel arcades with grooves which housed a portcullis, and linked laterally by solid walls, at right angles on both facades. The corbels of the machicolations are in place, but the parapets of the wall walk that surrounded it have been, on three faces, set back. To the south, this parapet remained at its original plumb. In the 16th century, the device was partially modified. The staircase which rises within the thickness of the wall of this south facade has retained its windows and its original entrance door. At the upper part of the curtain wall is visible the passage which gave, from the interior of the door, onto the wall walk. At the end of the 16th century, the door was raised by an eight-sided turret surmounted by a campanile. The barbican, pierced with four embrasures for gun ports, appears to date from the same period.
