Historique

History
Seat of an ancient and important lordship, the Plessis-Josso realizes the complete type of 16th century castle, one of the rare ones to have retained its outer enclosure. The building with rectangular plan, included within a fortified enclosure, presents on its south façade a polygonal turret. The south façade of the main dwelling is opened with triangular dormers, one of which has retained its Gothic decoration, as well as windows with stone mullions and ogee lintels. The polygonal staircase turret protects the entrance door surrounded by a moulded broken arch which falls on small columns. An ogee decorates this arch ended by a pinnacle and flanked by two others. To the east of the main dwelling is found a square pavilion added under Louis XIII. The large castle chapel of the early 17th century has disappeared. From the old avenue, one perceives the high and long curtain wall with crenellated parapet which develops from the pond to the entrance. On the side of the pond, the angle tower flanks the curtains of the south and west; to the east, the wall has disappeared. The 18th century mill, transformed into a dwelling, has retained its period layout. The vertical circulation is still effected by means of small wooden staircases, of which the one leading to the roof space has kept its turned balusters from the 18th century. The walls which enclose the former gardens to the east constitute a second fortified enclosure.
