History
This building, inaugurated in 1848, succeeded the old wooden market halls demolished in 1842. The ground floor is intended for shops and the first floor for a theatre and meeting rooms. In September 1935, the Cinéma Rex opened in the renovated and decorated theatre hall by Pierre Cadre. The mural paintings of approximately 70 m² represent a retrospective of Breton costumes from the Pontivy region, notably Guémené, Baud, Pluméliau, Saint-Thuriau, etc., with scenes drawn from the region and typical of Brittany, such as harvests, pardons, fairs, weddings, rural festivities.
