La préfecture est logée dans un ensemble de bâtiments élevés au 18e siècle par la Compagnie des Indes. Les deux pavillons situés de chaque côté de la grille fermant la cour d'honneur, présentent une ordonnance architecturale Louis XV. Le fond de la grande cour située entre les ailes, donne sur un jardin dont il est séparé par une clôture en pierre avec galerie de communication ajourée reliant les bureaux. Chacun des deux pavillons comporte cinq grandes ouvertures cintrées, couronnées par des clefs en forme de mascarons sur les façades principales et quatre sur les façades latérales. A l'intérieur, le cabinet de travail de l'amiral préfet maritime est orné de boiseries.

History
The prefecture is housed in a group of buildings erected in the 18th century by the East India Company. The two pavilions situated on each side of the gate closing the main courtyard present a Louis XV architectural arrangement. The far end of the large courtyard situated between the wings, opens onto a garden from which it is separated by a stone enclosure with a pierced communication gallery linking the offices. Each of the two pavilions comprises five large arched openings, crowned by keys in the shape of mascarons on the main façades and four on the lateral façades. Inside, the working cabinet of the admiral maritime prefect is decorated with panelling.
