History

The present château de Gazon was rebuilt in the second half of the 17th century on the site of an old medieval stronghouse. In the second quarter of the 19th century, in front of the south-facing façade an orderly façade was added, to allow the creation of reception rooms on the first floor. The interior, entirely redone in the 19th century, comprises rooms of quality. But one of the principal interests of the château lies in the park laid out in the 19th century, taking advantage of two elements: the undulating aspect of the site and the existence of the moats of the medieval and modern manor. This explains the importance of the water features (mirror pool, pond). Furthermore, the whole comprises a superb drive 1.3 kilometres long and planted with a double row of trees, unique in Brittany, 19th-century stables, a kitchen garden and a farm. The farm will be destroyed by the creation of the Villamur dam, but the château will be preserved.
