Historique
Le siège du parlement avait été définitivement fixé à Rennes en 1561. L'emplacement du palais fut choisi en 1611, les plans furent commandés à Germain Gaultier en 1615 et les travaux commencèrent en 1618. Ils furent achevés, selon un plan modifié par Salomon de Brosse en 1655. Les décors, commandés à Errard, sont constitués de boiseries et de plafonds peints principalement par Coypel, Jouvenet et Ferdinand Elle. La façade fut modifiée en 1726 par Gabriel, avec notamment la disparition du grand escalier monumental donnant sur la place, remplacé par un grand escalier intérieur. L'édifice a subi quelques remaniements au 19e siècle. Une petite partie des décors a disparu dans l'incendie du 4 février 1994.

History
The seat of Parliament had been permanently fixed at Rennes in 1561. The site of the Palace was chosen in 1611, the plans were commissioned from Germain Gaultier in 1615 and work began in 1618. They were completed, according to a plan modified by Salomon de Brosse in 1655. The decorations, commissioned from Errard, consist of wainscoting and painted ceilings principally by Coypel, Jouvenet and Ferdinand Elle. The façade was modified in 1726 by Gabriel, notably with the disappearance of the grand monumental staircase giving onto the square, replaced by a grand interior staircase. The building underwent some alterations in the 19th century. A small part of the decorations disappeared in the fire of 4 February 1994.
