Historique
L'hôtel, construit de 1666 à 1670, se compose de deux bâtiments en retour d'équerre, précédés d'une cour desservant les remises et les écuries. De nombreuses lucarnes à fronton, sur une corniche à modillons avec une toiture en ardoises à brisis très élevé, annoncent la couverture à la Mansard. Une porte est ornée d'un trumeau en bois sculpté (1689) avec le buste de Louis XIV et des médaillons à la gloire du Roi. La porte conduit à une vaste cage d'escalier à balustres avec un plafond peint en trompe l'oeil. Les boiseries et plafonds peints du rez-de-chaussée ont été envoyés aux Etats-Unis en 1924, à l'exception d'un plafond sur le thème "Uranie et les Comètes". La décoration sculptée et peinte est attribuée aux ateliers travaillant au Palais.

History
The hotel, built from 1666 to 1670, consists of two buildings at right angles, preceded by a courtyard serving the sheds and stables. Numerous dormers with pediments, on a cornice with modillions and a roof in slate with a very steep Mansard roof pitch, announce the Mansard roof covering. A door is decorated with a carved wooden trumeau (1689) with the bust of Louis XIV and medallions to the glory of the King. The door leads to a vast staircase cage with balusters and a trompe l'oeil ceiling. The woodwork and painted ceilings of the ground floor were sent to the United States in 1924, with the exception of one ceiling on the theme "Urania and the Comets". The sculptural and painted decoration is attributed to the workshops working at the Palais.
