Historique
Ancien archevêché dont la construction fut commencée dans la seconde moitié du 17e siècle. L'édifice devient manoir abbatial à partir de 1666. En 1720, construction d'une aile séparant la cour d'honneur de la rue de Fougères. L'aspect actuel remonte à 1770, suite aux transformations apportées par l'évêque de Rennes qui y établit son habitation. A l'intérieur, quelques pièces sont encore garnies de boiseries de style Louis XVI et la rampe en fer forgé a été conservée. L'édifice était localisé par erreur au n° 15, rue de la Monnaie. Hospice Saint-Mélaine situé dans les restes d'une ancienne abbaye bénédictine. Dans la galerie, archivoltes, tympan et consoles sont sculptés. Le cloître est couvert par des voûtes avec culs de lampes et clefs sculptés. Chaque extrémité du cloître est fermée par un plafond de pierre appareillée, orné d'un grand bas-relief. L'église Notre-Dame-en-Saint-Mélaine était l'église conventuelle de l'abbaye Saint-Mélaine, qui existait dès le 7e siècle. Après plusieurs destructions, l'église fut relevée au 11e siècle (restent de cette époque : la partie basse du clocher, l'intertransept et les transepts) . L'église a ensuite été remaniée plusieurs fois, aux 14e, 15e, 16e et 19e siècles. Dans le croisillon sud, une peinture murale représentant le Baptême du Christ date du 15e siècle.

Former archbishop's palace whose construction was begun in the second half of the 17th century. The building becomes abbatial manor from 1666 onwards. In 1720, construction of a wing separating the honour court from the rue de Fougères.
