Historique
Château remontant majoritairement aux 13e et 14e siècles. Le château aurait été bâti sur les ruines d'un castellum existant déjà au 6e siècle. Selon la légende, Tanguy du Châtel, fondateur de l'abbaye de Saint-Mathieu, y naquit. L'édifice devient château-fort vers le 10e siècle. En 1220, il est détruit au cours de la guerre contre le duc de Bretagne, puis reconstruit trente ans plus tard par Bernard du Châtel. Vendu comme bien national à la Révolution, le château est abandonné au 18e siècle. Reste le donjon du 12e siècle, de plan carré, divisé en quatre étages sur rez-de-chaussée. Les autres tours et l'enceinte extérieure datent des 13e, 14e et 15e siècles.

History
Castle dating mainly to the 13th and 14th centuries. The castle would have been built on the ruins of a castellum existing already in the 6th century. According to legend, Tanguy du Châtel, founder of the abbey of Saint-Mathieu, was born there. The building becomes a stronghold towards the 10th century. In 1220, it is destroyed during the war against the Duke of Brittany, then rebuilt thirty years later by Bernard du Châtel. Sold as national property at the Revolution, the castle is abandoned in the 18th century. There remains the keep of the 12th century, of square plan, divided into four storeys over ground floor. The other towers and the outer wall-ring date from the 13th, 14th and 15th centuries.
