Situé à 1, 5 Km du bourg de Gouesnou et à 3 km de Brest, le château de Mesléan se trouve pratiquement inclus dans une zone d'urbanisation qui couvre les deux communes de Brest et de Gouesnou. Sa proximité de Brest et son éventuelle mise en valeur pourraient en faire un pôle attractif intéressant cette région en pleine expansion. Du château lui-même, il ne reste d'intéressant que les ruines de la façade d'entrée. Les tours et les courtines semblent avoir été à l'origine couvertes d'une charpente et d'une couverture en ardoises dont il ne subsiste pratiquement plus rien. La courtine situé au-dessus de l'entrée est couverte par des dalles de granit et percée de fenêtres et meutrières sur ses deux faces. Seule la face externe possède des mâchicoulis. L'escalier de la tour d'angle est un escalier circulaire en granit sur pivot central, lequel se prolonge au-delà du dernier palier pour supporter une dalle circulaire faite d'éléments de granit, reposant sur un chapiteau central. L'intérêt de ce château est de montrer encore une façade médiévale comportant un système de défense assez exceptionnel qui en fait une véritable petite place forte.

History
Located 1.5 km from the village of Gouesnou and 3 km from Brest, the château de Mesléan is found practically included within a zone of urbanisation covering the two communes of Brest and Gouesnou. Its proximity to Brest and its possible development could make it an interesting attractive centre for this rapidly expanding region. Of the castle itself, nothing of interest remains but the ruins of the entrance façade. The towers and curtains appear to have originally been covered with roof structure and slate roof covering of which practically nothing now survives. The curtain situated above the entrance is covered by granite slabs and pierced with windows and loopholes on both its faces. Only the external face possesses machicolations. The staircase of the corner tower is a circular staircase in granite on a central pivot, which extends beyond the last landing to support a circular slab made of granite elements, resting on a central capital. The interest of this castle is in showing a still medieval façade featuring a defence system quite exceptional which makes it a veritable small stronghold.
