Construit au début du 13e siècle, le château fut restauré à la fin du 14e. Dans la seconde moitié du 15e siècle, ce premier château est entièrement reconstruit. Deux tours primitives sont conservées et intégrées à la nouvelle enceinte. A la Renaissance, un grand escalier est construit dans le logis ouest. La propriété du château (anciennement propriété de l'Etat, ministère de la Culture) a été transférée au conseil général (devenu conseil départemental) par convention signée le 1er février 2008 .

History
Built in the early 13th century, the château was restored at the end of the 14th. In the second half of the 15th century, this first château is entirely rebuilt. Two primitive towers are preserved and integrated into the new enceinte. At the Renaissance, a great staircase is built in the west main dwelling. The ownership of the château (formerly State property, Ministry of Culture) was transferred to the general council (which became the departmental council) by convention signed on 1st February 2008.
