Le premier casino de Paris, constitué d'un promenoir, d'un café et d'une salle de danse, est construit dans les années 1880 par les architectes Aimé-Louis-Joseph Sauffroy et Ferdinand Grémailly ; il ouvre à l'origine sur la rue Blanche. Il est transformé en 1891 par l'architecte Edouard Niermans qui y crée une scène. Une extension perpendiculaire à la salle, servant de café, est scindée en 1905, pour devenir le théâtre de Paris. Plusieurs incendies marquent l'histoire du Casino de Paris. L'un d'eux entraîne une réfection complète en 1917 : l'architecte Marcel Oudin aménage pour l'impresario Léon Volterra une salle moderne de 1 500 places ; l'entrée est reportée sur la rue de Clichy et reçoit la façade actuelle en béton armé, ornée de mosaïque et d'un vitrail central de style Art Nouveau (restauré en 1989) , tandis que la salle est dotée du premier balcon en béton armé réalisé en France. The first casino in Paris, consisting of a promenade, a café and a dance hall, is built in the 1880s by architects Aimé-Louis-Joseph Sauffroy and Ferdinand Grémailly; it originally opens onto rue Blanche. It is transformed in 1891 by architect Edouard Niermans who creates a stage there. An extension perpendicular to the hall, serving as a café, is divided in 1905 to become the Théâtre de Paris. One of them leads to a complete renovation in 1917: architect Marcel Oudin arranges for impresario Léon Volterra a modern hall of 1,500 seats; the entrance is moved to rue de Clichy and receives the present façade in reinforced concrete, decorated with mosaic and a central stained glass window of Art Nouveau style (restored in 1989), while the hall is fitted with the first reinforced concrete balcony constructed in France. Another fire in 1922 is the occasion to install an ultra-modern stage cage and to refurbish the interior, in an art-deco today greatly retouched.
