Historique
Conçues à l'origine comme un music-hall, les Folies-Bergère connaissent une grande vogue vers 1875. La salle est reliée à la rue par le vaste espace qui devient typique des music-halls parisiens, le promenoir, long jardin d'hiver rectangulaire entouré de galeries. Doté en 1905 d'une façade art nouveau de Niermans, le théâtre est entièrement rhabillé en 1928 par Picaud, qui dresse le celèbre bas-relief art-déco représentant la danseuse Lila Nicolska. History
Originally conceived as a music hall, the Folies-Bergère experience great popularity around 1875. The hall is connected to the street by the vast space which becomes typical of Parisian music halls, the promenade, a long rectangular winter garden surrounded by galleries. Fitted in 1905 with an art nouveau façade by Niermans, the theatre is completely refurbished in 1928 by Picaud, who erects the famous art-deco bas-relief representing the dancer Lila Nicolska. At this time, the hall becomes a nude cabaret and free circulation with the promenade is closed. The appearance of the hall, and especially the promenade, is today distorted by the additions of the 1930s (Erté) and by revue decorations left in place in the 1960s.
