Edifiée à l'initiative du conseil municipal de Clichy et de son maire socialiste, Charles Auffray, la Maison du Peuple est l'oeuvre d'une équipe comprenant les architectes Marcel Lods et Eugène Beaudouin, le constructeur Jean Prouvé et l'ingénieur Vladimir Bodiansky. Répondant à un programme municipal complexe (marché couvert, locaux syndicaux, bureaux, salle de conférence pour 1 500 personnes et salle de cinéma pour 500 spectateurs) , l'édifice, construit de 1937 à 1939, annonce une architecture mécanisée et présente de nombreuses innovations techniques : structure entièrement en profilés d'acier laminé, montés industriellement par l'entreprise Schwartz-Hautmont sans béton ni mortier ; mur rideau ; comble roulant et plancher mobile. History
Built at the initiative of the municipal council of Clichy and its socialist mayor, Charles Auffray, the Maison du Peuple is the work of a team comprising the architects Marcel Lods and Eugène Beaudouin, the builder Jean Prouvé and the engineer Vladimir Bodiansky.
