A dater de 1927, le cimetière communal de Sainte-Geneviève-des-Bois accueille de nombreuses tombes d'émigrés russes, en raison de la proximité de la maison de retraite fondée à l'initiative de la princesse Véra Kirillovna Mechtcherski. L'église orthodoxe, placée sous le vocable de Notre-Dame-de-l'Assomption, est construite de 1938 à 1939 sur les plans de l'architecte et décorateur Albert-Alexandrovitch Benois, auteur également de "fresques", en collaboration avec sa femme, Marguerite. L'église s'inspire du style traditionnel de Novgorod des 15e et 16e siècles. L'architecte, né à Saint-Petersbourg en 1888 et émigré en France en 1926, a construit aussi la chapelle orthodoxe de Saint-Hilaire-le-Grand (voir notice PA00078921). L'iconostase est l'oeuvre de Fedorov.

History
From 1927 onwards, the communal cemetery of Sainte-Geneviève-des-Bois received many tombs of Russian émigrés, due to the proximity of the nursing home founded at the initiative of the princess Véra Kirillovna Mechtcherski. The Orthodox church, placed under the invocation of Notre-Dame-de-l'Assomption, was built from 1938 to 1939 on the plans of the architect and decorator Albert-Alexandrovitch Benois, also author of "frescoes", in collaboration with his wife, Marguerite. The church was inspired by the traditional style of Novgorod of the 15th and 16th centuries. The architect, born in Saint-Petersburg in 1888 and emigrated to France in 1926, also built the Orthodox chapel of Saint-Hilaire-le-Grand (see entry PA00078921). The iconostasis is the work of Fedorov.
