Historique
Eglise commandée par Louis XIV en 1684 pour servir de paroisse royale. Jules Hardouin-Mansart est chargé de la construction réalisée entre 1684 et 1686. L'église devient cathédrale en 1791, puis temple de la Raison en 1793. En 1800, elle est rendue au culte. L'édifice se compose d'une nef à trois vaisseaux auxquels s'ajoutent des chapelles, un transept non saillant et un choeur à déambulatoire et chapelles rayonnantes. La façade s'inspire de celle du Gesu à Rome. Les sculptures sont dues à Pierre Mazzeline et Noël Jouvenet. De 1858 à 1873, une chapelle axiale est construite par Le Poittevin, entraînant un réaménagement du choeur. History
Church commissioned by Louis XIV in 1684 to serve as royal parish. Jules Hardouin-Mansart is entrusted with the construction carried out between 1684 and 1686. The church becomes a cathedral in 1791, then the Temple of Reason in 1793. In 1800, it is returned to worship. The building consists of a nave with three aisles to which are added chapels, a non-projecting transept and a choir with ambulatory and radiating chapels. The façade is inspired by that of the Gesù in Rome. The sculptures are by Pierre Mazzeline and Noël Jouvenet. From 1858 to 1873, an axial chapel is built by Le Poittevin, entailing a rearrangement of the choir. Of circular plan and covered with a dome, it takes up the theme of Marian chapels of the classical period. The drum is lit by openings decorated with Neo-Renaissance stained glass.
