Occupant l'emplacement d'une chapelle en bois élevée en 1864 et détruite en 1920, l'église est l'oeuvre de l'architecte Charles-Henri Besnard. Les plans datent de 1921-1922 et le chantier de construction et de décoration s'échelonne de 1926 à 1934. Suivant des procédés de construction qu'il avait brevetés à partir de 1918, l'architecte utilise pour cette construction des panneaux de béton armé préfabriqués, moulés à pied d'oeuvre et montés par l'entreprise Fourré et Rhodes. En raison de la proximité des usines de construction automobile à Javel (Citroën) , l'église est placée sous le vocable de Saint-Christophe, patron des voyageurs. La "fresque" d'Henri-Marcel Magne sur la voûte du choeur représente le saint entouré de voyageurs qui implorent sa protection et présentent leurs moyens de locomotion modernes : avion, ballon, train, paquebot, automobile. L'église est décorée également de vitraux signés de Jacques Gruber et de Max et Jean Braemer, ainsi que d'une vie du saint en douze panneaux dus au peintre Jac Martin-Ferrières. Le fronton de l'église est orné d'une statue de saint Christophe réalisé en béton par le sculpteur Pierre Vigoureux.

History
Occupying the site of a wooden chapel erected in 1864 and destroyed in 1920, the church is the work of the architect Charles-Henri Besnard.
