Historique
Cet hôtel, situé dans l'île Saint-Louis, remplace une ancienne demeure du début du 17e siècle. Il fut acheté en 1719 par Jean-François Guyot de Chenizot, receveur général des finances à Rouen ; c'est lui qui fit poser le balcon de l'hôtel et les décors de ses façades sur rue et sur cour. Après plusieurs propriétaires, l'hôtel fut loué en 1846 par l'Etat pour servir de résidence à l'archevêque de Paris, Monseigneur Affre. Au départ de l'archevêché (1849) , l'hôtel fut transformé en caserne de gendarmerie. En 1863, le propriétaire vendit le jardin s'étendant derrière l'hôtel. L'hôtel Chenizot est depuis longtemps divisé en habitations particulières.

History
This hôtel, located on the Île Saint-Louis, replaced an old residence dating from the early 17th century. It was purchased in 1719 by Jean-François Guyot de Chenizot, receiver general of finances at Rouen; it was he who had the hôtel's balcony and the decorations of its street and courtyard façades installed. After several owners, the hôtel was rented in 1846 by the State to serve as a residence for the Archbishop of Paris, Monseigneur Affre. After the archdiocese's departure (1849), the hôtel was transformed into a gendarmerie barracks. In 1863, the owner sold the garden extending behind the hôtel. The Hôtel Chenizot has long been divided into private dwellings.
