Après le succès commercial des Grands Magasins de la Samaritaine au Pont-Neuf (notice Mérimée PA00086005) , leurs fondateurs, Ernest Cognacq et Marie-Louise Jay, commandent à l'architecte Frantz Jourdain la réalisation d'une succursale destinée à une clientèle riche. Après les travaux de 1914 à 1916, réalisés en collaboration avec l'architecte Georges Bourneuf, le magasin est inauguré en janvier 1917. Le grand escalier à plusieurs révolutions incorpore les ascenseurs dans sa structure. L'édifice a été transformé en immeuble de bureaux et commerces en 1986.

History
Following the commercial success of the Grands Magasins de la Samaritaine at Pont-Neuf (Mérimée record PA00086005), their founders, Ernest Cognacq and Marie-Louise Jay, commissioned architect Frantz Jourdain to create a branch intended for a wealthy clientele. After work from 1914 to 1916, carried out in collaboration with architect Georges Bourneuf, the store was inaugurated in January 1917. The grand staircase with multiple flights incorporates the lifts into its structure. The building was converted into an office and commercial building in 1986.
