Banque fondée à Lyon en 1863 par Henri Germain. Abritant le siège central parisien de l'entreprise, cette construction est commencée en 1875 à l'angle du boulevard des Italiens et de la rue de Choiseul, à l'emplacement de l'hôtel de Boufflers. William Bouwens van des Boijen, architecte d'origine néerlandaise naturalisé en France, aidé de son fils Richard, est chargé des travaux et signe notamment, en 1882, le grand escalier à vis à double révolution, inspiré de celui du château de Chambord. La construction du siège de la banque se poursuit sous la direction des mêmes architectes par agrandissements successifs entre 1882 et 1913, l'architecte André-Felix Narjoux prenant la direction des travaux à partir de 1905. Pour l'achèvement du siège et de la façade donnant sur la rue du Quatre-Septembre (1912) , le Crédit Lyonnais fait aussi appel à l'architecte Victor Laloux. En 1913, l'édifice occupe enfin l'ensemble de l'îlot d'un hectare entre cette rue, le boulevard des Italiens et les rues de Gramont et de Choiseul. C'est un ensemble important dont le caractère monumental unifie la diversité des façades conçues au cours des différentes campagnes. Si le hall des titres a disparu, à l'intérieur subsistent l'agence centrale avec ses deux halls boulevard des Italiens, modernisée dans son mobilier mais intacte dans son architecture, et l'agence Quatre-Septembre, qui a perdu ses appuis métalliques à hauteur des galeries, mais dont l'armature métallique de la coupole peinte de teinte claire est toujours visible. La salle du conseil a gardé son décor et son mobilier. L'édifice a été gravement endommagé par un incendie le 5 mai 1996.

Bank founded in Lyon in 1863 by Henri Germain.
