Ce théâtre est sans doute la plus belle création des années 1880 en la matière. History
This theatre is doubtless the finest creation of the 1880s in the matter. Its covering, which could date from the end of the 18th century (wrought iron and earthenware filling), is perhaps the ultimate vestige of Victor Louis's society theatre. It was from 1783 to 1807 one of the most frequented places in Paris before being closed by Napoleon and abandoned. Becoming the Café de la Paix, it played an important role in the development of the café-concert. The fine foyer of 1880 probably takes up again the volume of this café (wooden gallery on the first storey) and is adorned with a painted frieze by Emile Bayard on the history of the Theatre. The plan of the auditorium, due to De Guerchy, dates from its reopening in 1830, but the decoration of plaster and papier-mâché was executed around 1905, with a painted ceiling by Jean-Baptiste Lavastre.
