First mention of the church in 1287, built following the transfer of the relics of a saint who died in 1160. The first church appears to have been demolished to be rebuilt from the 14th century onwards. Important place of pilgrimage from the middle of the 14th century to the end of the 15th century. From 1793 to 1795, the church became Temple of Reason then of the Supreme Being. Four of the five bells are sent to the foundry. Interior restorations in the 18th century. Period of restoration from 1839 to 1842, under the direction of architect Griois. From 1860 to 1867, consolidation and restoration of the spire. From 1878 to 1895, restitutions carried out by architect Charles Winckler (polychrome roofs, architectural elements, sculptures). From 1905 to 1908, new restoration of the spire. Further works in 1927 then 1945 following the destruction of the two world wars.
