Historique
Première abbaye cistercienne fondée en terre d'Empire en 1124. Une église gothique a remplacé en 1346 le sanctuaire roman. Après les dévastations de la guerre des Paysans (1525) et de la guerre de Trente Ans, l'abbaye est relevée en 1656. Après un incendie en 1699, elle est entièrement reconstruite de 1708 à 1750. La plus grande partie des bâtiments conventuels et l'église furent démolis au début du 19e siècle, après que l'abbaye ait été vendue comme bien national en 1796. Dans les bâtiments restants (grange, hôtellerie...) , sont installés un atelier de fonte et une forge (qui a fonctionné jusqu'en 1882).

History
First Cistercian abbey founded in imperial territory in 1124. A Gothic church replaced in 1346 the Romanesque sanctuary. After the devastations of the Peasants' War (1525) and the Thirty Years' War, the abbey was restored in 1656. After a fire in 1699, it was entirely rebuilt from 1708 to 1750. The greater part of the conventional buildings and the church were demolished in the early 19th century, after the abbey was sold as national property in 1796. In the remaining buildings (barn, hostelry...), a foundry workshop and a forge (which operated until 1882) were installed.
