Ce bâtiment est reconstruit entre 1728 et 1732 pour le maréchal du Bourg. Cet hôtel est alors l'un des plus importants bâtiments de ce type, d'autant qu'il possède le plus vaste jardin intra-muros. Cet édifice est symbolique à plus d'un titre : témoin de l'autorité militaire du roi de France sur l'ensemble de la province, jalon de l'architecture civile de style Régence à Strasbourg et emblème du nouvel art de vivre français. Après 1871, les murs du bâtiment sur rue seront rasés afin de construire un nouveau tribunal. Cette fonction judiciaire est magnifiée par un décor symbolique toujours visible.

This building is rebuilt between 1728 and 1732 for the marshal du Bourg.
