Le fief de Baïgorry fut créé en 1033 par Sanche le Grand de Navarre. Durant les guerres de Religion, le seigneur d'Etchaux devint l'homme de confiance d'Henri IV. Cette période marque l'apogée de la famille. La maison forte est agrandie vers 1555 (château actuel). En 1848, le château fut acheté par les D'Abbadie d'Arrast qui firent aménager de nouvelles dépendances et des terrasses. History
The fief of Baïgorry was created in 1033 by Sancho the Great of Navarre. During the Wars of Religion, the lord of Etchaux became the trusted man of Henry IV. This period marks the apex of the family. The strong house was enlarged around 1555 (present château). In 1848, the château was purchased by the D'Abbadie d'Arrast who had new outbuildings and terraces fitted out. The rectangular building is flanked on the west by two round towers and on the east by two gun turrets, one round, the other polygonal. The openings were altered in the 18th and 19th centuries. The interior retains a wrought-iron stair ramp.
