Historique

History
Completed in 1534, the church was set on fire and partly destroyed by Montgomery's troops in 1569. After the re-establishment of Catholic worship in Béarn, restoration of the building was begun and continued during the 17th and 18th centuries. The church was deconsecrated in 1793. The construction, dilapidated, underwent restoration again in the 19th century. The church opens through a portal under a basket-handle arch, surmounted by an ogival arch framing two sculptured angels on either side of a niche. This element comes from the porch tower erected on the south facade of the church. The ribs of the entrance porch spring from corbel-like capitals featuring busts of figures symbolizing the four ages of life. The nave consists of seven oblong bays whose arches spring from pilasters. The vaulted aisles are interrupted, on the south, by the presence of the entrance porch, on the north by the chapel of Sainte-Catherine whose vault keys with lierne and tierceron ribs represent, among other figurations, Saint Catherine and her wheel.
