En 1650, Jean de Gassion, baron de Canon, président par provision du Parlement de Navarre, achète la terre d'Audaux. Les travaux durent commencer peu après et se terminer en 1659. En 1660, le domaine est érigé en marquisat. En 1853, Charles d'Abbadie d'Arrast aurait fait démolir l'aile des écuries et son pavillon à la suite, dit-on, de l'empoisonnement d'un de ses chiens abyssins. En 1928, le nouveau propriétaire entreprend la restauration de l'édifice. Il modifie les dispositions intérieures dans l'aile proche du gave et exécute lui-même les peintures dans les pièces du rez-de-chaussée. Le château est vendu à l'Oeuvre des Orphelins apprentis d'Auteuil en 1943. £Le vaste édifice se compose d'un corps de bâtiment principal et de deux ailes en équerre encadrant la cour d'honneur.
