Ce pont date de la fondation de la bastide de Villeneuve par l'abbé d'Eysses et le sénéchal Alphonse de Poitiers, en 1264. Il a été construit pour relier les deux parties de la ville. L'ouvrage présente des arches de portées variées. Il a subi de nombreuses transformations : la grande arche côté ville est d'époque indéterminée ; les autres arches ont été modifiées ; les avant-becs ont été dérasés ; le pont a été élargi au 19e siècle par la suppression des parapets de pierre, remplacés par des mains-courantes en fonte portées par des encorbellements en voutains de briques sur fers.

History
This bridge dates from the foundation of the bastide of Villeneuve by the abbot of Eysses and the seneschal Alphonse of Poitiers, in 1264. It was built to link the two parts of the town. The structure presents arches of varying span. It underwent numerous transformations: the large arch on the town side is of indeterminate date; the other arches have been modified; the cutwaters have been levelled; the bridge was widened in the 19th century by the removal of stone parapets, replaced by cast-iron handrails borne by corbels in brick vaults on iron.
