Historique

History
Strongly fortified, the castle commanded the access routes from Monflanquin to Castillonès and Villeréal. Three dwelling bodies in an L-shape are placed at the southern end of the plateau, the fourth side being formed by the entrance tower. Three towers protected it. On the north, the tower giving access to the inner courtyard, portal reinforced with bars, sliding in the wall, with arrow loops and portcullis passage. A square tower to the south-east and a cylindrical tower to the south-west. In the courtyard, the re-entrant angle formed by the east and south dwelling bodies is occupied by an octagonal tower. On the edge of the plateau stands a round tower, later converted into a dovecot (1300 nesting holes). The south building preserves, on the first storey, a hall with a painted ceiling from the 18th century. The east building preserves, on its external façade, a series of crenellations bordered, on the inside, by a wall-walk.
