History
Of the ancient fortifications that surrounded the town, only vestiges of historical interest remain. The gate of honour, situated near the former castle, is in round arch with rear voussure in a depressed arch. At the corner of the former castle is found a machicolated corbelled turret. This turret, overlooking the court of honour, is fitted with several rows of loopholes allowing the besieged to fire on enemies who might have succeeded in entering the court. The arch of the barbican gate is pointed, the interior being vaulted with a barrel vault. A stone staircase gives access to the curtain wall. The niche of the culverin guard and the culverin loophole are intact.
