Historique
Théâtre construit de 1907 à 1908 à l'emplacement du théâtre Moncorny, datant de 1808. Financé par un legs de 300 000 francs fait par Alphonse-Pierre Ducourneau (1841-1903) , natif d'Agen, qui avait fait fortune à Paris avec un nouveau type de ciment, le ciment Amalga. L'architecte du théâtre, Guillaume Tronchet, second Grand prix de Rome en 1892 et architecte en chef des palais nationaux, est retenu après un concours organisé en février 1906. History
Theatre built from 1907 to 1908 on the site of the Moncorny theatre, dating from 1808. Financed by a bequest of 300,000 francs made by Alphonse-Pierre Ducourneau (1841-1903), native of Agen, who had made a fortune in Paris with a new type of cement, Amalga cement. The architect of the theatre, Guillaume Tronchet, second Grand Prize of Rome in 1892 and chief architect of national palaces, was selected after a competition organised in February 1906. He designs a classical theatre in the Italian manner, but the use of reinforced concrete allows the arrangement of cantilever balconies, giving better visibility and rendering the theatre fireproof. Interior decorations executed by local artists until 1911, including an allegory of music on the ceiling by painter Antoine Calbet.
